Text size

June Karen Porter, of Georgetown, Texas, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016 at The Wesleyan at Scenic Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Georgetown. She was 92.
June was born on a family farm just north of Garner, Iowa in 1923, daughter of Mary (Jensen) and Christian Rasmussen. She attended Public School and Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa.
She married Wayne Porter in December of 1943. They lived an Army life (with two small daughters) through World War II and the Korean Conflict, until Wayne left military service in 1952. They added three sons to their family and enjoyed several career moves with the Veterans Administration. They lived in Danville from 1962 to 1966 when Wayne retired. June returned to Danville in 1975 and remained until 1999. June was a voracious reader, and liked nothing better than a good game of bridge with friends.
June is survived by daughter, Judy (Jeff) Willett of Georgetown, Texas: sons, Scott (Lisa) Porter of Austin Texas, John Porter of Round Rock, Texas, and Tom (Betsy) Porter of Danville; sister, Joy Moore of Anaheim Hills, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; daughter, Karen Basinger of Des Moines, Iowa; and brothers, Robert Rasmussen of California and Dwayne Rasmussen of Clear Lake, Iowa.
