John R. Young, Danville, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Heritage Health Nursing Home in Hoopeston, Ill.
John was born Feb. 7, 1928, in Danville, Ill., to John Russell and Marjorie Brown Young. He graduated from Rossville High School in 1946.
John married Mary Ann Klein on Sept. 2, 1951, in Danville. They raised two sons, R. Stanley and Robert Allen, during their 58 years of marriage. Mary Ann preceded John in death in 2009.
Surviving are his son, Robert (Ruth) Young; his daughter-in-law, Candice Burk; four grandchildren, Kyle Young, Lauren (Kevin) Wright, Kimberly Young and Lucas Young; six great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Henry, Penelope and Lucy Young, and Taylor and Selah Wright; his sister, Marilyn Mihm, and his brother and sister-in-law, William and Sandra Young.
In addition to his wife Mary Ann, John was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Chuck Young; and his son, R. Stanley Young.
John worked many years at Western Brick and Kirchner's Building Center in Danville. During his younger years, he was active in scouting and enjoyed coaching his sons in sports. In his senior years, one of John's special interests was the American Legion Honor Guard Post 210. He appreciated his many friends and social interactions at the Legion. John was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church throughout his life.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. Memorials may be made in John's honor to the American Legion Post 210, Danville, Illinois.
