CAYUGA, IND. - John S. McMasters, 62, of Cayuga, died from injuries sustained in a car accident on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born April 25, 1954, in Danville, the son of the late Samuel and Ruth (Thompson) McMasters.
John married Sherlyn Holycross on Feb. 28, 1976 at Eugene United Methodist Church in Eugene, Ind. She survives.
Other survivors include his children, Sami (Michael) Dillion of Cayuga, Ind. and John (Tracey) McMasters II of Lafayette, Ind.; six grandchildren, Alexis, Brandon, Briley, Reed, Makenzie and Evan; two brothers, Gerald (Pam) McMasters of Catlin and Paul (Jean) McMasters of Cayuga, Ind.; father-in-law, Harold W. Holycross of Cayuga, Ind.; sister-in-law, Marsha (Johnny) Peterson of Cayuga, Ind.; brother-in-law, Dave Holycross of Charleston, S.C. and special friends, Kent Westfahl of Danville and Jerry (Ronda) Conrad of West Lebanon, Ind.
John was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
John was a machinist at Leatherneck Hardware, in Danville, for 20 years, retiring four years ago. He attended Second Church of Christ in Danville. John was a 1972 graduate of North Vermillion High School. He was a member of the Cayuga Chubby Club. John enjoyed working on street rods, being outdoors, watching NHRA and spending time with his grandchildren.
Funeral services: 3 p.m. EDT Saturday, April 8, at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga; Officiating: Keith Warner; Burial: Eugene Cemetery in Eugene, Ind.; Visitation: 11 a.m. EDT Saturday, April 8, until time of services at the funeral home.
