Jean's Story

Jean Lee Jackson (Brigham) was born to Robert Withers and Mable Brigham on April 16, 1944, in Danville, Ill. She was the eldest of four children and attended Danville Public Schools.
In 1963, she married Burton Perkins of Danville and the couple raised six children.
Throughout her life, Jean served others through her many talents and skills. She loved sewing and worked as a professional silk finisher. She also served as a Den Mother of the Cub and Boy Scout Troops of Flint, Mich.; as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Flint, Mich., Danville, Ill., and Waverly, Tenn.; and many other roles until her health began to fail in 2004.
Jean was baptized as a member of New Jerusalem Church of Jesus Christ under the leadership of Bishop James T. Jackson, where she was the originator of the lunch program.
Later in life, Jean reconnected with her teenage love, Allen Jackson, of Danville, Ill. They married in 2000. The couple relocated to Aurora, Ill., where they enjoyed a brief, but loving union until he passed in 2001.
After a lengthy illness, Jean transitioned to her eternal home on Aug. 8, 2017, at the age of 73.
Jean is survived by four of her loving children, daughter, Vicki Bryant (Kevin Cooper), sons, Burton (Rita) Perkins, William (Angie) Perkins and Orlando (Kaye) Perkins; her devoted sister and caregiver, Celester "Louise" Brown; her loving and attentive brother, Curtis (Rose) McCray; 20 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; dear friends Vicki Harris of Flint, Mich., Geraldine Seward, Patricia Leggins and Ronald Dix of Danville, Ill.; and many relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Allen Jackson; her parents, Robert Withers and Mable McCray; two sons, Vincent Brigham and Lamont Perkins; grandson, DeMarcus Cotton; sister, Brenda Brigham; and brother, Maurice "Tommy" Withers.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman in Danville, Ill.
