Howard William Robinson, 86, of Dixon, formerly of Hoopeston and Rankin, died on Nov. 11, 2016 at 11:15 p.m. at Franklin Grove Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Franklin Grove, Ill.
Born on April 9, 1930 in Ashmore, Ill., he was a son of Benjamin Dwight Robinson and Dorothy Lovelass Robinson.
He married Carolyn Land on July 22, 1956. He is survived by his wife and three daughters, Ann (Paul), Carol, and Jane (John), and six grandchildren, Sarah, Reid, Paige (Dave), Cole, Braden, and Grant. He is also survived by three sisters, Barbara (Robert), Betty Jo (Dr. Richard), and Ruthann, and a brother, Dwight (Cindy). His parents; his brother, Wayne; and his sister, Jean, preceded him in death.
Mr. Robinson graduated in 1948 from Kansas High School and received a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Education from the University of Illinois in 1953. While at the U of I, he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and a manager of the Men's Tennis Team. Upon graduation, he served in the Korean War. Afterwards, he taught in Carlinville and then became a Farm Bureau Farm Management Fieldman. He received a master's degree in Agricultural Education from the U of I in 1960. In 1964, he began his 44-year farming career, raising hogs, corn, and soybeans on a family farm in the Rankin area.
He was a member of Hoopeston United Methodist Church, Hoopeston Rotary Club, Vermilion County Republican Party, Vermilion County Farm Bureau, and Champaign-Vermilion Pork Producers.
His favorite pastimes were attending Illinois football games and Hoopeston Area basketball games. He was a dedicated family man.
His service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Ridge Farm.
