Helen M. (Pitlik) Gillum, 90, of Swansea, Ill., born Aug. 12, 1926, in Tilton, died on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 at her residence.
Helen cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, many craft projects and decorating for holidays. She especially enjoyed using her thrifty skills to find the ultimate bargains to add to her collections and holiday displays. Helen was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and never missed making a special dish or dessert for the various Parish events.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Merrill "Jack" Gillum; her parents, Joseph and Matilda, (Ruszan) Pitlik; and her siblings, Joseph Pitlik, Jr., Frank Pitlik, Mary Dalby, Irma Porter and Esther Rodman.
Surviving are her children, Tom (Kathy) Gillum of Swansea, Ill., Judy (Stephan) Fihn of Seattle, Wash., Don (Pat) Gillum of Shiloh, Ill. and Ken (Jayne) Gillum of Collinsville, Ill.; grandchildren, Tim(Tammy) Gillum, Jeff (Elisha) Gillum, Nathan (Quinn) Fihn, Elsa Fihn, Conrad Fihn, Jennifer (Tim) Beech, Josh Gillum, Carly Gillum and Megan Gillum; great grandchildren, Tyler, Drew, Brooke, Sydney, Cooper, Ashtyn and Lauren; and siblings, Elizabeth Pitlik, Julie Trigalet, Tillie (Charlie) Dietz, Bill (Kathy) Pitlik, and Joann Dernulc all of Danville. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to American Heart Association, Alzheimer's Association or Holy Trinity Building Fund.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Jan. 16, from 10-11:45 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 505 Fountains Parkway, Fairview Heights, Ill.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, Jan. 16, at 12 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. Ray Schultz officiating.
