DANVILLE - Harold Lloyd Smith, 92, well-known Danville businessman and owner of the former Smith Sunoco and Smith Auto Repair and U-Haul, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016, at Gardenview Manor Nursing Home, Danville.
Harold was born June 22, 1924, in Danville, Ill., to Everett E. and Myrtle Swisher Smith.
Harold married Virginia Darr on Nov. 1, 1967, in Sidell, Ill. Virginia passed away June 27, 2002.
Survivors include a sister, Linda Pickering of Danville; two sisters-in-law, Marian Smith of Danville and Dorothy Smith of Gibson City, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Robert Smith; and a sister, Patricia Wyman.
Harold served in the United States Navy. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He was a member of Danville Elks Club for over 50 years. He was a member of CrossRoads Christian Church in Danville.
His greatest passion was his flower gardens at his home on Vermilion. He won the Danville Garden Club's Make It Bloom! contest several times. He enjoyed bowling and antiques.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Robison Chapel in Catlin, with Pastor Ken Bostwick officiating. Burial in Gordon Cemetery in Danville. Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Robison Chapel in Catlin.
