Freida Marie Hicks Hedgpeth was born in Danville, IL in 1922 and along with identical twin sister, Fleeta, were well known in town as "The Hicks Twins" at a time when twins were more unusual. She attended Cannon Grade School and graduated Danville High School. She married Eddie N Hedgpeth in 1942 in Danville. Eddie was in the Army Air Corps stationed in Texas. Their first daughter was born in Texas and they moved around several bases there until the shipped out to Homstead , FL until he mustered out after VE day. They returned to Danville to live and raise their family. She was active in her church and Home Bureau, enjoyed entertaining friends and family, reading, decorating, and cooking. Starting in the early 60s she began to work in labor and delivery at St Elizabeth's Hospital as a scrub nurse, then she went to work as an LPN for Dr Stanley Levine and for the doctors that followed in that practice until she retired. She then did volunteer work at what is now Presence Hospital and Faith in Action, and baking for the church when needed. We have wonderful memories of this funny , feisty, intelligent, and loving mother, sister, aunt and friend. She was one of a kind and we will miss her terribly.
