Floyd Kelley Simpson, 86, of Danville, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at Pape Family Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St., Danville, with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Danville National Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 210.
Floyd was born Sept. 21, 1930, in Millersview, Texas, to Belvy and Hazel (Reed) Simpson. He attended and graduated Bakersfield High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and later the Air Force, serving during WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He retired in 1966.
Upon retiring from the service, he worked for Pacific Bell (now AT&T) for 20 years and then raised cattle on a 100-plus acres in California until 1991 when he moved back to Kingman, Ind. Floyd worked as a cross-country truck driver for five years with his wife, Shirley, before finishing his career raising cattle once again, this time in Indiana.
Floyd was a longtime member of the Lions Club. He loved riding horses, driving cross-country, and farming. He bailed over one hundred acres of hay for several years.
Floyd married Shirley Cancil on Oct. 20, 1951, in Tilton. She survives.
Also surviving are four children, Sherry Cummings, Sandy (Martin) Shellhammer, Steven Simpson and Scott Simpson; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Judy, Jackie and Willa; a special niece and nephew, David and Verna Quick; and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Geneva and Frances; and four brothers, Johnny, Dickie, Kenneth and Lavorn.
The family wants to extend their utmost appreciation to Iroquois Hospice and The Bobette Steely Cancer Center for their exceptional care, compassion and dedication to Floyd and the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Floyd's name to the Bobette Steely Cancer Center, Iroquois Memorial Hospice or the Honor Flight.
