Ethel's Story

Mrs. Ethel V. Long, 76, entered into eternal rest at 5:50 a.m. on July 19, 2017 at her home. She was born on March 10, 1941, the daughter of Willie and Lillie Mae Crawford Render in Danville.
Ethel attended Jackson Street School and graduated from Danville High School in 1959. She moved to Chicago in 1960 and became a CNA at the Veteran's Administration. She received numerous awards for Excellent Care of Patients.
In 1963, she married Frank Long. They were married for 40 years. Ethel would visit Danville regularly and stayed in contact with family and friends.
Ethel retired from the Veterans Administration in 1994 and moved back to Danville in 1996 with her daughter and two grandsons. She united with Mason Temple Church of God in Christ in 1998.
Ethel is survived by her daughter, Vanessa Long of Danville and two grandsons, Raphael (Dionne) Long of Houston, Texas and Roderick (Erica) Long of El Paso, Texas; two brothers, Eddie and Joseph Render of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two sisters, Ernestine (David) Alexander of Chicago and Elizabeth Cloyd of Danville. She had countless nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church members.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Evelyn and Marilyn; four brothers, Willie Jr., Eugene, Nathaniel, and James Render; and one daughter, Monica Long.
A Celebration of Life will commence at 12 noon Saturday, July 29, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 East Williams Street, Danville. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. until the start of the service.
