Elizabeth's Story

BISMARCK - M. Elizabeth DeNeal, 102, of Bismarck, passed this life at 8:43 a.m. Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center, Danville, Ill.
Elizabeth was born September 10, 1915, to Orton R. and Lottie Samuels Starr in Bismarck, Ill.
She married Samuel J. "Sam" DeNeal on February 4, 1936. He preceded her in death on September 20, 1990.
Surviving are four daughters, Norma (Norma) Claypool of Bismarck, Carolyn Jean Finley of Fairmount, Marilyn Jo (Robert) Eicken of Edwardsville, Ill., and Lois (Robert) Siddens of Holiday, Fla.; one son, Richard "Dick" (Patricia) DeNeal of Monticello, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren and soon to be twin great-great-granddaughters; several nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law. Preceding her in death are three brothers, Robert, Samuel and Clifford Starr; one sister, Eleanor Nelson; one son-in-law, Larry Finley; two granddaughters, Star Elizabeth Siddens and Brenda (Claypool) Smith; one great-granddaughter, Brittany Smith; one great-great-grandson, Kyler Tull.
Elizabeth attended Old Grange Hall School, which was located across the road from the farmhouse where she was raised. She then graduated with the class of 1933 of Bismarck High School, where she was active in the music department.
As a child, she attended Pleasant View Christian Church in Bismarck where she made her confession making Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior. She was baptized in the river just south of the old Myersville Bridge.
After marriage, she and her husband were members of Walnut Corner Church of Christ, rural Bismarck, where they raised their five children. Elizabeth, among other things, was a homemaker who taught teenage Sunday school class and was church pianist. Some of her other activities included: Thimble Club of Bismarck, Bismarck Home Extension, Senior Citizens' and Newell Township Historical Society, reading, board games and jigsaw puzzles.
She was beloved by many and loved spending time with the many generations of family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
Services: noon on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at First Church of Christ, Bismarck, with Dick DeNeal and Travis Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Corner Cemetery, Bismarck. Visitation: 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the church.
