Edwin Jay Bell, 75, of St. Augustine Florida, died March 18, 2017, at Haven Hospice in Jacksonville, Florida.
He was born Oct. 24, 1941, to Miriam and Maurice Bell in Danville, Illinois, grew up on a farm south of Metcalf in Edgar County and graduated from Young America High School in 1959.
Ed graduated from Eastern Illinois University in 1963, and obtained his Master's of Education from the University of Illinois in 1973.
He married Tillie Rose Cohen in 1963 and they raised two children, Tim and Steve.
Ed touched many lives as a career-long teacher at East Park Middle School from 1963 to 1980, and at Danville High School 1981 until his retirement in 2001. Ed also was involved for many years with Indian Guides and Boy Scouts, where he enjoyed many camping adventures with his sons.
Ed and Tillie moved from Danville to St. Augustine in June of 2013, where he enjoyed many new friends at Seagate ocean side community. They enjoyed many day trips exploring Florida and took full advantage of being so close to beautiful beaches, all the history of St. Augustine and their sons.
He is survived by his wife, Tillie; two sons, Tim Bell (Pam) of Jacksonville Florida, Steve Bell (Susan) of Orlando Florida; three grandchildren, Alex, Colin and Allison; his sister, Carolyn Kay Pugh (Howard) of Indianapolis; two nieces, Yopi (Larry) Havlik and Jennifer Pugh; and great-nephew and great-niece, Jacob and Abby Havlik.
The family is planning a small remembrance in St. Augustine and a celebration of life this summer in Hume, Illinois.
