Donald 'Don''s Story
Donald 'Don' Lee Treadway, 70, of Georgetown, passed away at 9:42am, Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, IL. He was born on September 18, 1946, in Danville, IL, the son of Leonard and Cecilia Treadway. On June 26, 1965, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Irene Hall in Danville. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage and she will miss him dearly.
Don will also be missed by: his daughters, Yolanda (Dale) Thompson of Georgetown, Milissa (David) Hoffman of Westville, Sherri (Bryan) Haizlip of Hernando, FL, and Amy (Sam) Altshue of Silver Springs, FL; his grandchildren, Alysha, Daniel, Darla, Dayna, Stephanie, Jenny, Dustin, Derek, Shaley, Dustin "Ray", Carley, James, Andrea, Autumn, Laura, Matthew, Brandon, Shelbie, Shay, & Cheyenne; his 13 great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and Don loved kids, many lovingly called him "grandpa". He was preceded in death by: his parents; his brother, Terrance Treadway; his sister, Violet Cockrell; and his grandson, Matt.
Don worked at General Motors Tilton Foundry until retirement in 1991. He then worked for Bunge where he later retired as a Millwright. He was 32° Mason and belonged to the Scottish Rite Bodies Masonic Lodge Danville, IL. Don was a race driver who drove many types of racing cars. He loved to work on them and rebuild them. He also enjoyed woodworking, hunting, & gardening. When Don put his hands to something, he put his whole heart into it. He dearly loved his wife and put his pride in her. Don also loved life and lived it to the fullest. He touched many lives and will always be remembered.
A celebration of Don's life will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, 200 E. West Street, Georgetown, with Pastor Gary Farris officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Friday, August 11, 2017, at the funeral home with Masonic Rites at 7:00 pm. He will be laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery, Danville.
