Clara "Evelyn" Black, 69, of Rossville, passed away at 6:44 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2016, at her home son's home, surrounded by family.
Mrs. Black was born on Nov. 24, 1946, in Champaign, the daughter of Charles and Clara (Strater) Horath. She married Calvin J. Black on Sept. 2, 1972, in Danville.
She is also survived by her mother, Clara Horath of Attica, Ind.; one daughter, Tina (Kenny Snook) Black of Tilton; three sons, Timothy James (Penny) Black of Paris, Kenny (Meagan) Black of Attica, Ind., Eric (Amber) Black of Hoopeston; seven sisters, Joyce Compton, Janet Richter and Pat Richter of Danville, Linda Searcy of Attica, Ind., Cathy Bodgas of Sarasota, Fla., Sharon Taylor of Lafayette, Ind., Marilyn Moore of Williamsport, Ind.; two brothers, Bud Horath of Williamsport, Ind., Fred Horath of Attica, Ind.; two brothers-in-laws, John Pate and Mike Jackson of Rossville; two sisters-in-law, Sandy (Bill) Gerard of Dayton, Ohio and Jeanine Black of Rossville; 15 grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany, Courtney, Rebecca, Destiny, James, Spencer, Alex, Zach, Koby, Evan, Brayden, Kasidi, Hunter, Fisher; seven great-grandchildren, Brooklynn, Beau, Justin, Sophia, Zoey, Jace, and Mason; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles; husband, Beanie; sister, Norma Easter; sister-in-law, Barb Pate; brother-in-law, John Black; and mother-in-law, Ruby Mathews.
Mrs. Black worked at Casey's in Rossville and was the donut maker. Evelyn enjoyed listening to Elvis in her convertible, cooking, baking and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
A Celebration of Clara Evelyn Black's Life will be held at 11 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at Blurton Funeral Home in Hoopeston, with Pastor Dan Mikel officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Blurton Funeral Home, 309 East Washington, Hoopeston.
