Catherine Bernard Grant, 73, of Danville, transitioned from this life at 2:06 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, surrounded by her family.
She was born June 28, 1943, in Danville to Oasby G. Bernard Sr. and Margaret Bernard-Marshall.
Catherine was a 1961 graduate of Danville High School. Catherine confessed Jesus as her Lord Savior at an early age. She was formerly a member of Greater Shiloh Baptist Church and later became a faithful member of Philadelphia Baptist Church, where she served on various committees.
Catherine retired from Pepsico. She loved reading the Bible, playing the piano, crocheting and being around family and friends.
She married Edward Grant in 1971 in Chicago.
Catherine leaves to cherish her memory her children, Marcus (Vivian) Bernard, Briana Grant-Bryant and Edmond (Shawna) Grant; three brothers, Oasby G. Bernard Jr., Russell J. Marshall II of Columbus Ohio, and Steven Marshall of Beloit, Wis.; three sisters, Cheryl Marshall of Defiance, Ohio, Denise Gates of Chicago and Dequila Blackman of Plano Texas; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins; and two lifetime friends, Wardella Rouse and Katey Thompson.
She was preceded by her husband; parents; a brother, Neil Bernard; a grandson; and great grandson.
A Celebration of life will commence at noon Monday Oct. 24, at Philadelphia Baptist Church, 423 N. Washington Ave., Danville. Visitation will be 11 a.m. Monday until the time of the service. Officiating: Pastor Courtney Watson. Interment will be at Danville National Cemetery.
