Cassandra "Cassie"'s Story
Cassandra "Cassie" L. Haugen, 70, of Westville, passed away at 6:25 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. She was born on July 7, 1946, in Danville, the daughter of Arthur and Sandra (Burton) Balsamello, both deceased.
She was united in marriage to Richard Haugen on June 16, 1967. He will miss her dearly.
She will be missed by her children, Jeff (Melissa) Haugen and Jodie (Ryan) Atwood; her grandchildren, Lauren Rae Haugen, Hannah Atwood, Nathaniel Pollert, and Madelyn Burton; her brother, John (Leslie) Balsamello; her sisters, Arlene (Greg) Alpers and Carol (Kevin) Kemna; and her good friend, Sally Miller.
Cassie was a teacher and taught at McMillan Grade School where she was a Reading Specialist. She later worked for R.O.E. as an Educational Consultant. She also volunteered at Vermilion County Museum. Cassie loved traveling with her husband and enjoyed driving around the country collecting bittersweet. She also enjoyed visiting antique shops and always loved attending her grandkids games and plays.
Cassie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was known as the "heart & soul" of her family and will always be lovingly remembered by those whose lives she touched.
A celebration of Cassie's life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 11, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S. State St., Westville. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 10, at the funeral chapel. As were her wishes, she will be cremated.
