DANVILLE - Wilma J. Powell, 93, of Danville passed away at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, at her home.
Wilma was born August 25, 1925, the daughter of Earl and Hazel Emma (Fix) Turner in Tab, Ind.
She married William Powell on October 30, 1992, in Danville, Ill. He survives.
Survivors include her husband, William Powell of Danville; two daughters, CJ Trollope of Maylene, Ala., and Vicki Davis of Williamsport, Ind.; one stepson, Steven Powell of Crawfordsville, Ind.; one brother, Gerald Turner of Bettendorf, Iowa; as well as seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Wilma is preceded in death by her parents; one stepson, Mark Powell; three brothers, Harold, Maynard and Gail Turner; and two sisters, Maxine Smith and Helen Grogan.
Wilma graduated from Ambia High School and went on to sing with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Later she attended cosmetology school in Lafayette, Ind., and, after graduation, owned and operated Wil-Jean Hair Salon in Williamsport, Ind., for many years.
Wilma was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending her free time gardening, especially her flowers, working crossword puzzles, loving on her dog "Preppie Luv," and was obsessed with "cleaning."
A Celebration of Life will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Ridgeview Baptist Church, 3838 N. Vermilion St., Danville, with Pastor Mark Keyser officiating. A private family inurnment will be at a later in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at the church.

I really enjoyed Cricket as my neighbor over the last 26 years. She was a sweet and loving person. I will dearly miss her.
