William A. Swaney Jr., 80, of Palm Bay, Fla., and formerly of Covington, Ind., went to be with the Lord on December 4, 2017.
Bill was born in a house in Covington on August 12, 1937, and was a lifetime resident of Fountain County until his retirement in 2010.
Bill was a 1955 graduate of Covington High School and a Private Second Class in the U.S. Army Reserve before earning a business degree from Brown Mackie College in 1959. He enjoyed a 50-year affiliation with NAPA Auto Parts, at one time owning five stores in Fountain, Warren and Vermillion counties, and was respected by many as the "go-to" parts man.
He was an avid bowler, fisherman, and hunter for many years, and throughout his life was a quiet mentor and selfless giver to family and friends in need.
Bill leaves behind his wife, Jeanne Swaney, Palm Bay, Fla.; two sons, William Swaney III of Illinois and Robert (Suellen) Swaney of Greenwood, Ind.; a daughter, Jodie (Doug) Varner of Savoy, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Melissa Council of Veedersburg, Ind.; a foster-daughter, Sarah Smith of Fort Wayne, Ind.; grandchildren Katie and Glenn Swaney, and Shelby and Matthew Council; and a stepmother, Martha Swaney of Tilton, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Louise (Peck) Swaney Sr.; a brother, Larry; and an infant son, Timmy.
At Bill's request, there will be no memorial service. Contributions can be made in Bill's name to the organization of your choice.
