William "Bill"'s Story
OAKWOOD - William "Bill" Eugene Lomax, 83, of Oakwood, passed away at 8:32 a.m. Sept. 3, 2017, at his home with his family by his side.
"Bill" was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Catlin, Ill., the son of William and Mary Grace (Lovett) Lomax.
He married Mildred Hopkins on Jan. 9, 1956, in Tilton, Ill. She survives.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mildred Lomax of Oakwood; two daughters, Cindy (Jeremy) Lomax-Shumate of Oakwood, and Toni (Rick) Wagle of Jamaica, Ill.; four sons, Bob (Brenda) Lomax of Oakwood, Richard Lomax of Danville, Mike (Dody) Lomax, of Danville, Steve Lomax of Oakwood; 19 grandchildren; as well as 12 great-grandchildren.
"Bill" is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Delores "Pat" Sapp; one granddaughter, Jessica Wagle; as well as two daughters-in-law, Cindy Lomax and Jo Lomax.
"Bill" was a retired millwright from General Motors after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Catfishing Club and loved spending time with his family, especially taking them out fishing. "Bill" also enjoyed mushroom hunting and riding around in his golf cart with his dog "Rowdy."
Visitation will be 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Sept. 9, at Sunset's Oakwood Funeral Chapel, 105 E. South Main St., Oakwood. A Celebration of Life Service will be at noon Saturday at Sunset's Oakwood Funeral Chapel. Jeremy Shumate will officiate.
