Warren Lane Beck passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017. He was 91 years young. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Betty Maskal and his children, Gary Beck of Boerne, Texas and Nancy (David) Herbst of Inverness, California. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Warren was born in Danville, Illinois to Arthur R. and Esther Lane Beck on April 17, 1926. He grew up on a farm near Henning, Illinois. He registered with his entire high school class on December 8, 1941 for deferred enlistment and later served in WWII in the Army Air Corps. After his military service, he attended the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, IL where he studied engineering. He returned home to work with his grandfather and father at Beck & Son in Henning, IL., as the third generation blacksmith. He was a skilled welder and carpenter. Warren's great grandfather came from Germany in 1898 and opened the business and Warren's father later joined the business.
He married the love of his life, Betty Maskal on June 1, 1947 in Danville. They have two children, Gary and Nancy. He was active in the Bismarck Lions Club and also a member of First Presbyterian Church in Danville. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. Following his retirement in 1992, they moved to Port Isabel, Texas until the last several years when they moved to Boerne with their son.
Warren was a quiet man, always ready to help in any situation. In Boerne, he looked forward to feeding the deer every afternoon.
