Wanda's Story

Wanda Faye Sandusky, 94, of McLeansboro, died 7:50 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at McLeansboro Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Oct. 23, 1921, in Hamilton County, the daughter of Noble and Jewel Benbrook Reed. She married Russell E. Sandusky; he preceded her in death. She is survived by son, Ronald (wife Jane) Sandusky of McLeansboro; daughter, Carolyn (husband Paul) Johnson of McLeansboro; four grandchildren, Brian Johnson, Gregory Sandusky, Rhonda Powell and Cynthia Phelps; five great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and sibling, Maxie Reed of McLeansboro. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, one sister and one great-grandchild. Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Interment was at IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until service time Friday, Jan. 29, at Gholson Funeral Home. She was a retired seamstress from the former Elder Manufacturing Company in McLeansboro. She was a member of First General Baptist Church in McLeansboro. Gholson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
