Susie L. Poke was born May 9, 1953, in Burdette, Miss., to the late parents of Susie Myers-Poke and Peter Poke Sr. She was the fifth child. She departed this life on Feb. 14, 2018. She confessed her faith in Christ at an early age. Survivors include two daughters, KuWanya N. Poke and Tikesha C. (Demetrius) Perryman. Two sons, Rodell F. Poke and Monerie A. Poke Sr. One sister, Catherine Nailor; seven granddaughters, KaDaisha Poke, Alexis Poke, Areionna Poke, Aspen Poke, Ataisha Poke, Amiya Poke and Kennadi Perryman. Five grandsons, LaJohn Poke-Miles, Jaleel Poke, Jaylen Poke, Monerie Poke Jr and Amare' Poke. Three great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Kem Poke; a host of nieces and nephews; one best friend, Kennadi Chanel Perryman; and many other relatives and friends.
Susie worked for Utility Products manufacturing while in Mississippi for years. While living in Danville she worked for Danville School District 118 at McKinley School for many, many years as a Para professional until her retirement. She loved being around her family, and helped raise three of her grandchildren, KaDaisha, LaJohn and Kennadi, though she had a special bond with each and every one of her grandchildren. Susie also loved bingo, lottery and had a green thumb for gardening. She will be missed dearly.
She is preceded in death by both parents, Peter Poke Sr. and Susie Myers-Poke; a sister, Rutha Mae Poke; and two brothers, David Poke and Peter Poke Jr.
A Homegoing Celebration will commence at noon Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at New Union Baptist Church, 1031 N. Gilbert, Danville. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating: Rev. Steve Gilbert. Entombment will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
