LIGGETT, Steven Jeffrey, 51, passed away peacefully at his home in Aubrey, Texas, on Sunday, December 31, 2017, after his courageous battle with cancer.
Steve was born in Phoenix, Ariz., on May 4, 1966, the son of Philip Lloyd and Bonnie Jean Johnson-Liggett.
As a foster child, Steve grew up and lived all over Illinois. Never having met a stranger, he created new friends wherever he went. He maintained these friendships throughout his entire life. To Steve, friends were family and he never let one slip away.
Steve met the love of his life Jena Elizabeth Gallez in July of 1990. They were later married on July 15, 1994. Together they raised their family in Illinois, Arkansas and Missouri before moving to Texas in 2014.
Steve had wide range of hobbies and interests. He enjoyed woodworking and often built furniture. He was mechanically inclined and could easily tear apart and rebuild anything from a clock to a motor to a computer. He loved being outdoors and could often be found cooking out, camping, fishing and target practicing. He loved his gun collection and was a proud member of the NRA.
Steven will be dearly missed by his wife, Jena Liggett; his two daughters, Karyssa Liggett of Danville, Ill., and Jenel (Steve) Liggett-Henry of Pontiac, Ill.; his two sons, Steven (Abby) Liggett Jr. of Chenoa, Ill., and Zachary Liggett of Aubrey, Texas; four grandchildren, Acheron, Damien, Kinsley and Jax.
Steven also is survived by his dad and mother, James and Bonnie Jean Hathaway of Danville; three sets of wonderful foster parents, Dave and Betty Habben of Erie, Ill., Johnny and Theresa Hughey of Ridge Farm, Ill., and Leonard and Teresa Kemper of Casey, Ill., who never lost their place in his heart; four brothers, Phil (Thuy Le) Liggett of Houston, Texas, Scott Liggett of Danville Ill., Travis (Shelly) Liggett of Hot Springs, Ark., Chance (Kim) Beech of Waveland, Mich.; one sister, Angela, "Raven" Letour, of Rhode Island; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and foster brothers and sisters.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Philip Lloyd Liggett, and one sister, Robin Leanne Urbanski.
A Memorial Service for Steven Liggett in celebration of his life and friendship will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Midway Church, 9540 Hwy 377 South, Pilot Point, TX 76258. A second Memorial Service for Steve is planned for March in Illinois with a special bonfire gathering. Please contact Travis.
