Sarrah's Story

Sarrah B. Nations, 94, died 1:44 p.m. March 29, 2016, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in McLeansboro. She was born June 5, 1921, the daughter of Elisha and Faye (Tucker) Gillenwater. She married Dexter Nations; he preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Norma (Carl) Moore of Crown Point, Ind.; brothers Gary Gillenwater of Louisville, Ky., and Charles Gillenwter of Marietta, Ga.; sisters, Beulah Morris of St. Francisville, Patty Donley of Evansville, Ind., Sue Walls of New Harmony, Ind., and Delores Gray of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Jerome Anthony (Kathy) Moore and Sonya (Bill) Spurlock; 10 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Nations had worked as a supervisor at the Manteo State Hospital and also worked for the former Atkinson Produce store in McLeansboro for more than 40 years. Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at Hopewell Baptist Church near McLEansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial was at Enfield Cemetery in Enfield. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 1, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Gholson Funeral Home of McLeansboro is in charge of arrangements.
