Samuel F. Gaines, 77, of McLeansboro, passed away 1:53 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014, in McLeansboro. He was born Nov. 9, 1936, in Broughton, the son of Elza "Scrub" Gaines and Minnie (Richardson) Gaines. He married Mona Jean Duncan on July 1, 1967, in McLeansboro. He was the City of McLeansboro gas superintendent. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. He loved to fish and talk with the boys at McDonald's and the barbershop. He truly loved his wife Mona. He was the owner of Sam's Bail Shop. He served in the U.S. Navy in Korea. He is survived by his wife, Mona Gaines of McLeansboro; two daughters, Becky Prince and husband John of McLeansboro and Pam Barnett of McLeansboro; grandchildren, Jeff Morris of McLeansboro, Jerrod Prince and wife Jill of McLeansboro, Jason Prince and wife Brook of Louisville, Ky., Morgan Barnett and companion Levi Hart of McLeansboro and Mayson Barnett of McLeansboro; great-grandchildren, Savanna and Peyton Prince of McLeansboro, Chloe and Quinn Morris of Muscotine, Iowa, Trystin and Grayson Prince of Louisville, Ky. and Prestyn Hart of McLeansboro; and one sister, Janet Dudley of Decatur. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Gaines. Funeral service were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Robert Sefried officiating. Burial was at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in McLeansboro. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 25, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, is in charge of all arrangements.
