Roy's Story

Roy Roy Allen Powers, 88, of McLeansboro went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on June 15, 2014. Roy was born in Dover, Tenn., on April 28, 1926, to the late Albert and Lennie (Dunaway) Powers. He retired from the L & N Railroad and he was an avid gardener and his most enjoyment was his family. On Oct. 17, 1945, he married the former Minnie Luffman and she was the love of his life for 68 years. Also surviving are his children, a daughter, Glenda Kay Butler of Evansville, Ind.; his sons, Larry Keith (Debbie) Powers of McLeansboro and Wallace (Rose) Martin of Collinsville; seven grandchildren, Donna (Barry) Greenwell, Larry Allen (Jessica) Powers, Faith (Clinton) Chambliss, Kim (Dennis) Bashears, Mike (Rhonda) Martin, David (Debbie) Martin and Chad Martin; 17 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, James H. Powers of Tennessee and Albert Jr. Powers of Belleville; and three sisters, Ethel McCullen of Nashville, Tenn., Evelyn Sherman of East Alton and Barbara Diser of Caseyville. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Butler; two brothers, Ray Powers and Landon Powers; and a son-in-law, George Butler. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Bud Seifried officiating. Burial was at Digby Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service time at the funeral home. Special thanks to the Enfield Rehab and Health Care Center and the entire staff for the loving care.
