Roy L. "Big Roy" Menzo, 65, of Hoopeston, Ill., formerly of New Jersey, passed away at 2:20 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2017.
He was born June 22, 1952, in Hackensack, N.J., the son of John and Dorothy (Reed) Menzo.
He married Tina Perna on Dec. 8, 1984, at Madonna RC Church in Fort Lee, N.J. She survives in Hoopeston.
He is survived by one son, John Menzo of Hoopeston; four sisters, Lucinda (Mark) Aldighere of New Milford, N.J., Roberta (Ross) Palino of Saddle Brook, N.J., Barbara (Kevin) Bray of Hackensack, N.J., and Melanie (Raymond) Pedalino of River Edge, N.J.; one brother, John Menzo of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Roy was a mechanic and welder for Teamster Local 560 in Union City, N.J. He served in the United States Air Force Pararescue during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Silver Star on the White House lawn by President Nixon. After serving in the Air Force, he joined the Army National Guard.
Roy rode with motorcycle clubs since the age of 13. He was a retired president of Iron Cross Motorcycle Club in New Jersey and a retired member of the Sons of Silence Motorcycle Club in Danville and Terre Haute. He also studied martial arts in Chinatown, New York City, and had a black belt in taekwondo.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a graveside service will be at noon Friday July 28, at Danville National Cemetery 1900 E. Main St. Danville.
