Robert George Porter Sr. passed away to His Heavenly Father at 6 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
Robert was born Feb. 11, 1957, in Danville, the son of Walter Tims and Betty Dixon Porter. He was married to his childhood sweetheart Linda Mae Worthington on July 22, 2006, and she survives.
Robert served in the United States Marine Corps from 1974-1983 as a Staff Sargent and Jet Engine Mechanic. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for SKW Alloys in Calvert City, Ky., as a mechanic at Watson Auto Repair and as a welder/fabricator for Freight Car, both in Danville.
Robert was a man of many interests, among them was cooking (his passion), (baking BIG cookies was his specialty. He was known as The Cookies Man). He also enjoyed listening to music, watching movies, he was an avid fan of The Young and The Restless (his guy was Victor Newman), fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Linda M. Porter; four children, Robert, Devon, Roselyn and Timmera Porter; two special children, Belinda and Ronnie Worthington; his special siblings to his heart, Leo (Marla) Porter, Betty Ann Smith, Stanley Porter (Leetha Brown), Stacey (Shawn) Chattman, Pam (Michael) Dennis and Kenneth (Ginene) Porter; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Patricia Glover, and a brother, Vernon Porter.
A Homegoing Celebration will commence at noon Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 311 N. Collett. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating: Pastor Lucius Barber. Interment will be at Danville National Cemetery. Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams, is in charge of arrangements.
