Robert T. "Bob" Layden Jr., 79, of Hoopeston, passed away at 1:12 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, at Heritage Health Therapy & Senior Living in Hoopeston.
He was born March 6, 1937, in Hoopeston, the son of Robert and Elizabeth (Schuff) Layden Sr.
He married Glenda Elliott on Dec. 28, 1967, at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Hoopeston. She survives in Hoopeston.
He is survived by one son, Glenn Vines of Paxton; one sister, Janet (Sid) Payne of Fowler, Ind.; one brother, Richard "Ric" (Marj) Layden of Hoopeston; one granddaughter, Carly Vines; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bob served in the United States Army Reserves. Following his time in the service, he devoted the rest of his life to farming and caring for the family farm. He was a member of Prairie Green Church of Christ, where he also sang in their quartet. He enjoyed attending Purdue games with his son, Glenn.
Bob loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Carly.
Per his wishes, he will be cremated and a visitation will be 11 a.m.-noon Monday, Aug. 8, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston. A memorial service will follow the visitation and will begin at noon Monday at the funeral home, with Rev. Dustin Wells officiating. A private burial will be at Floral Hill Cemetery.
