Richard Wayne Lyons, 79, Hillsboro, Ind., passed away quietly at his home with his children by his side, at 1:06 a.m. Friday, November 24, 2017.
Richard was born in Ridge Farm, Ill., on April 1, 1938. He was the son of the late John Lester and Ruth Marie (Vale) Lyons.
Richard had resided in Hillsboro for the past 58 years. He was a graduate of Kingman High School in 1956.
Richard worked as a proofreader and machine operator at R.R. Donnelley in Crawfordsville. He retired from R.R. Donnelley in June of 1996. He later worked at the Shawnee Learning Center near Attica and Scott Pet in Rockville.
Richard was a member of Hillsboro United Methodist Church. He also served on the Burning Hearts Emmaus of West Central Indiana. He was an avid stamp and Norman Rockwell plate collector. He enjoyed visiting old cemeteries, studying Indiana history and railroad steam engines, especially the Nickel Plate. He liked to scrapbook local Fountain County historical events. Richard also enjoyed writing poetry and had penned volumes of poems, publishing some. He also enjoyed feeding and watching birds.
Richard married Joyce Ann Booe on September 20, 1958, in Sterling, Ind. Joyce preceded him in death on June 29, 1983.
Richard leaves behind a son, Pastor Timothy W. (Cathy) Lyons, Veedersburg; twin daughters, Tracey S. Lyons, Hillsboro, and Trena A. (Max) Bond, Anderson, Ind.; two brothers, Ronald D. Lyons, Battle Ground and Donald E. (Ruth Jane) Lyons, Lake Forest, Ill.; a sister, Cheryl M. (John) Wolf, Lafayette; three grandchildren, Dannielle "Nikki" (Larry Treynor) Lyons, Michael Lyons and Tracy Bond; four great-grandchildren, Gracie Lyons, Kayden Lyons, Ledger Lyons and Linden Treynor; a special adopted daughter, Brenda Payne. Richard was preceded in death by three brothers, John Lyons Jr., Robert D. Lyons and James L. Lyons, a sister, Patricia Bowling; and a daughter-in-law, Tammy Lyons.
Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro, 2-6 p.m. EST Sunday, Nov. 26. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at Hillsboro United Methodist Church with Pastor Tim Lyons and Jeff Fishero officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro.
