CATLIN - Ray H. Hewitt, 93, of Catlin, passed away 1:35 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Danville.
He was born October 13, 1924, in Georgetown, Ill., to Melvin and Mignonettie Brazelton Hewitt.
Ray married Rachael F. Britch on November 16, 1947, in Catlin.
His loving wife of 70 years, Rachael survives, as well as two sons, Mark (Jerri Ann) Hewitt and David (Becky) Hewitt; a daughter, Susan Hewitt; a daughter-in-law, Linda Hewitt; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Steven and Michael; two brothers, Wayne and Dale; and a sister, Louise Collier.
Ray had been a furniture repairman in the Operations and Maintenance Department of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He enjoyed camping, traveling, woodworking. He had been a former Boy Scoutmaster. Ray and Rachael traveled to all the lower 48 states. He was also an Army veteran and a Purple Heart recipient.
Private family graveside rites will be at OakRidge Cemetery in Catlin. Pastor Scott McCurdy will officiate. Catlin American Legion will perform military honors. A public time of family fellowship will be 3-4:30 p.m. Sunday, January 14, at Calvary Baptist Church in Danville.
