Ralph Dean Hawthorne, 84, of Raleigh, N.C., and formerly of McLeansboro, died 12:35 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at University of North Carolina Hospital at Chapel Hill. Ralph was born Oct. 10, 1929, in McLeansboro, the son of Ralph and Ula (Smith) Hwathorne. He served in the U.S. Air Force and married Barbara Sue Johnson of Dec. 18, 1955. He worked in security for McDonald Douglas in St. Louis before retiring and moving to Raleigh, N.C. He is survived by his wife; a son, Michael (EVelyn) Hawthorne; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Rebecca, all of Raleigh, N.C. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Bob (Thelma) Johnson of Fairfield. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery with full military rites.
