Phyllis R. Spencer passed this life on November 25, 2017.
Phyllis was born September 20, 1950, in Danville, a daughter to John E. and LuluBelle Goudy Jones. She was married to Hal Spencer. They later divorced.
Survivors include her daughter, Melissa (John) Stanis of Miami, Fla., and her son, Steve (Tammy) Spencer of Mahomet, and her three grandchildren, Spencer and Saphira Stanis and Hailey Spencer. She was a proud mother and loving grandmother ("Grammy" to them).
She also is survived by her sister, Kathy (Jeff) Stewart of Philo, and brother, John (Doris) Jones of Allerton; her two nieces, Kristine Dohme Benton of St. Charles, Mo., and Stacey Erdman of Sycamore; her grand-nephew, Ryan Benton; and her longtime special friend, Paul Haas of Rossville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Carolyn Marie Jones.
Phyllis was raised in Allerton and graduated from ABL High School in 1968. She attended Eastern Illinois University and later took classes at DACC. She lived most of her life in Oakwood and Danville. She retired from the Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System in Danville.
She was a member of Allerton United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She loved to golf, bowl, play bingo and euchre. She also loved to travel, went to Spain twice, Mexico and took numerous other trips and cruises.
Her family was her pride and joy, as were her cats. She loved to cook and bake. Christmas was always special with decorated cookies, candies and fudge.
A life celebration was held at Blaire-Owens Funeral Home in Mahomet on Saturday, December 2, 2017. Officiating was Reverend John McIntosh. Interment was private at Lower Mound Cemetery in Perrysville, Ind.
