Obe Bond, 85, of McLeansboro, passed away 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016, at his home. He was born Feb. 27, 1930, in Equality, the only child of Reuben Bond and Myrtle (Irvin) Bond of Dale. He married Phyllis Lee on Aug. 14, 1954, in Evansville, Ind. He is survived by wife, Phyllis Bond; and three sons, Gregory Bond and wife Karol (Johnson) of Villa Ridge, Mo., Geoffrey O. Bond and wife Glenda (Moore) of Jonesboro and Gerry D. Bond and wife Retha (Rogers) of McLeansboro. He was blessed with 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son, Gerome Bond. Funeral service was held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Revs. Geoff Bond and Greg Bond officiating. Burial was at Hickory Hill Cemetery in Broughton. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Obe was an educator. He also loved to farm. He was Pentecostal by faith. Obe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, church leader, educator and administrator. After attending school at SIU Carbondale, he taught at various schools in Southern Illinois. He later received his master’s degree in education from SIU and went on to fill various administrative roles in Hamilton County. Obe served as the first superintendent of Unit 10 Schools. He led song services, specials, taught a Sunday school class and served on church boards. He liked nothing better than to be at church, revival meetings and camp meetings. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Elco Camp Church Camp, Elco, in Obe’s honor. Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, is in charge of all arrangements.
