Norman Joseph Kirsch, 88, of McLeansboro, passed away 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, at McLeansboro Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, McLeansboro.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 at St. Clement's Catholic Church, McLeansboro, with Father Slawomir Ptak officiating. Burial will be at St. Clements Catholic Cemetery, McLeansboro.
He was born Oct. 5, 1928, in Piopolis, the son of Charles Kirsch and Minnie (Roesch) Kirsch. He married Floann Mitsdarffer on May 30, 1955, in Piopolis.
He was a railroad car builder, oilfield worker, truck driver for Petrolane, set up technician in cureing at General Tire and a farmer. He was a member of St. Clements Catholic Church, McLeansboro. He spent time with family, especially family fish frys, hunting, gardening, raising blackberries; favorite activity was farming; he loved watching Foxes basketball. He was a member of the St. Isadore Council of Knights of Columbus. He served as a sargent in Korea in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by wife, Floann Kirsch, McLeansboro; daughter, Lori Smith and husband Eric, Springfield; three sons, Ron Kirsch and wife Terrea, Mt. Vernon, Alan Kirsch and wife Denise, McLeansboro and Kevin Kirsch and wife Tricia, Loami; eight grandchildren, Chandler Kirsch and wife Jenna, Erica Lippit and husband Ben; Mallory, Rachel, Daniel and Kayci Kirsch, Reegan and Asya Smith; and brother-in-law, Gay Scharf of Golden Eagle.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Irene Scharf.
Memorials may be made to St. Clements Catholic Cemetery, McLeansboro.
