Norman's Story

Norman L. Edson, 94, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away August 9, 2017 at White Oaks Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born November 11, 1922 in Brighton, Illinois to George William and Edna (Hart) Edson. Norman first married Virginia Lee Struble. After her passing, he later married Marvene Tate on March 17, 1967. She preceded him in death on July 17, 2013.

Norman is survived by his children, Vicky Lisenby and husband, Chuck of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Jeff Edson and wife, Peggy of Tulsa, Oklahoma; stepchildren, Saundra Loss of Texico, Illinois and Marvetta Rickman of Dodge City, Kansas; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and brothers, Richard Edson of Phoenix, Arizona and Jack Edson and wife, Betty of Elkhart, Indiana.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Virginia Edson; second wife, Marvene Edson; stepson, Michael Guyman; and siblings, Imogene Hester, Beulah Webb, Pearl Dick, George Herbert Edson, and Bob Edson.

Norman proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II as a military policeman. He later worked as the owner and operator of Edson's Market in Bluford and Roadrunner Catering in Mount Vernon. Norman was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Bluford, Illinois and was honored as a Jefferson County Senior Saint. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and woodworking in his spare time, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Norman was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation: Monday, August 14, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Funeral Service: Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Mr. Jeff Edson and Mr. Marty Mills officiating. Interment: Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. The American Legion Post #141 will be conducting full military rites. Memorials: Otterbein United Methodist Church in Bluford, Illinois.
