Nettie's Story

Mrs. Nettie Lee Porter, 91, departed this life Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at 5:40 a.m. at Countryside Manor.
Born June 7, 1925, in Batesville, Miss., she was the daughter of Willie and Vester (Trotter) Bronner. She was married to Miles Porter who preceded her in death.
A retired CNA at Jeffersonian Nursing Home, Mrs. Porter was a member of New Life Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an usher, church mother, Sunday school superintendent, choir, Missionary Society and Kitchen Committee.
Survivors include her son, Richard (Dorothy) Porter; daughter, Louise (Howard) Rudd, all of Mt. Vernon; sister, Annie Mae Easley of Detroit; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; dear friend, Irene Dismuke of Mt. Vernon; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister and two sons, Benjamin Hill and Eddie Hill.
Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the New Life Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Delano Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
Jackson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
