WESTVILLE - Mitchell Valangeon, 77, of Westville, passed away at 9:38 a.m. Thursday, July 4, 2019, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Danville.
He was born April 19, 1942 in Danville to Rene and Margaret Slifer Valangeon.
He married Sandra Ankrum. She survives, as well as a son, Steve (Annette) Valangeon; a daughter, Pam (Ted) Hoffman; a brother, Marc (Brenda) Valangeon; two sisters, Barbara (Dave) Cline and Laura Styler; four grandchildren, Brad (Sheri) Reid, Jennifer (Jamaica) Spires, Kala (Mike) Spires and Carley (Robert) Hoffman; six great-grandchildren, Jada, Kennedy, Brantley, Holden, Ben and Sage; three sisters-in-law, Lynn Valangeon, Doris McCoy and Shirley Beckett; two special cousins, Claude (Elaine) Valangeon and Gladys (Chuck) Pickering; and many nieces and nephews. Mitchell was preceded by his parents and a brother, Larry.
He had been involved with Shaff Implement Co. in farm machinery sales for 20 years, and had served as mayor of Belgium for 13 years, retiring due to ill health. Mitchell was a longtime member of the Ridge Farm Lions Club, and served on the board of directors of the Vermilion Fishing Club.
The family wishes to thank OSF Medical Center, Colonial Manor staff and Dr. Sodhi for their care and kindness.
Graveside rites: 10 a.m. Saturday July 13, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ridge Farm, Ill., with Pastor Wade Martin officiating. The Robison Chapel in Catlin is handling service details.
