Millard "Mutt" Allen, 96, of the Stringtown area, died at 2:24 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born in Stringtown Dec. 15, 1920, the son of Zimmie and Anna Mae (Berto) Allen.
Mutt was a life resident of Stringtown and a farmer all of his life. He also worked in the coal mines in his younger years. He graduated from Perrysville High School in 1937. Mutt enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, gardening, dancing, playing cards, horses and horse races.
Millard married Rosalie Rhoads Oct. 4, 1940, at Waterloo, Iowa, and she died Jan. 23, 2014. Surviving are three children, Deanna (Gary) Demes of Bloomington, Ind., Dennis (Suzy) Allen of Covington, Dawn (William) Blake of Westfield, Ind.; seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. His parents and sister, Millicent Hadley, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. EDT Friday at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington. Funeral services 11 a.m. EDT Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at Stringtown Church of God with Pastor Keith Klossner officiating.
