Melissa Kay Herr, 40, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 2:00 A.M. August 2, 2017 at Thunder Bay in Ontario, Canada. She was born April 20, 1977 in Salem, Illinois to Robert "Bob" C. and Sue (Shufeldt) Herr III.
Melissa is survived by her parents, Bob and Sue Herr of Mount Vernon, Illinois; brothers, Robert C. Bob Herr IV and wife, Ginny of Jackson, Mississippi and Dustin Herr and wife, Lindsey of Jackson, Mississippi; nephew, Robert C. Herr V of Jackson, Mississippi; uncle, Stephen Herr and wife, Katlyn of Memphis, Tennessee; aunts, Annette Marioni and husband, Al of Orange Beach, Alabama, Mary Ann Shufeldt of Columbia, Missouri, and Linda Shufeldt of Iuka, Illinois; and cousins, Jaclyn Crawford and husband, Sean of Dallas, Texas, Chuck Shufeldt and wife, Brandi of Arnold, Missouri, Albert Marioni and wife, Leza of Munford, Tennessee, David Herr of Memphis, Tennessee, Katie Ericcson and husband, Leif of Memphis, Tennessee, Stacey Herr of Houston, Texas, April Brown and husband, Shawn of Jacksonville, Florida, Greg Shufeldt, Daniel Shufeldt of Columbia, Missouri, Will Shufeldt of Iuka, Illinois, and Robert Marioni, and wife, Brittany of Nashville, Tennessee.
Melissa was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charles Chuck and Pauline Shufeldt and Robert C. and Kathryn Herr, Jr.
Melissa graduated with a Bachelors degree in social work from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She was a member of Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Hartland Desk and Derrick Club of Southern Illinois. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation: Sunday, August 6, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Funeral Mass: Monday, August 7, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Father John Iffert officiating. Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be given to Saint Mary School Endowment Fund and will be accepted at the church or the funeral home.
