MaryJo's Story

MaryJo (Jadwin) Pierce, formerly of Danville, IL, passed into the arms of her Heavenly Father and reunited with her husband at 9:30 PM on Monday, August 28, 2017, in Neenah, WI. She was 87.

Born October 11, 1929, in Pontiac, MI, the daughter of Henry Ward and Nora Frances (Nott) Jadwin. She married Fredrick Harold Pierce on December 23, 1953 and he preceded her on June 26, 2017. They shared 63 years of marriage. Surviving is her sister, Jane Shewey of CA., MaryJo's 6 children also survive her: Jennifer (Jim) Reed of IN, Suzanna (Hugh) Jones of IL, Cynthia Pierce of IL, Benjamin (Jeri) Pierce of CT, Betsy Hamby of WI, and Nancy (Dr. Jim) Payne of AL. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren: Daniel Reed of PA, Dr. Jonathan (Betsy) Reed of FL, Aaron (Suzanne) Reed of CA, Nora-Leigh Reed and Alex Reed of IN, Melinda (Larry) Jones of IN, Courtney (nee Jones) (Edward, III) Sayre of OR, Nathan (Krischa) Pierce of CT, Natalie Pierce of CT, Jhered Hamby and Brooke Hamby of WI, Peggy Payne of SC and Gracie Payne of AL; and 14 great-grandchildren: Michael and Joshua Reed of FL, Wade and Keith Reed of CA, Zacheriah McLain of IL, Mason Michelin and Olivia Jones of IN, Edward Sayre, IV of OR, Fiona, Kylie and Clive Pierce of CT, Levi, Phoenix and Gavin Hamby of WI, plus two great-grandchildren on the way. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Durward Jadwin, sister, Norene Treat, nephew, Ward Treat, son-in-law, Randy Hamby, and a great grandson, Blaze McLain.

She was a graduate of Ann Arbor (MI) High School and University of Michigan School of Dentistry.

She retired from Dr. Ronald Hand's office in Danville, IL as a Dental Hygienist. She was a former member of First Baptist Church where she taught children's Sunday School class for many years, as well as sang in the choir, and Calvary Baptist Church, Danville, IL and Faith Baptist Church, Decatur, AL.

Among her favorite things to do were sewing, baking - especially cherry pies, reading bird/floral magazines, vegetable and rose gardening. One favorite memory she shared with her husband was their final trip to The Big House to watch Homecoming halftime festivities, as well as a "Let's Go Boo" pre-Homecoming band concert in Hill Auditorium in October 2014 where they were given special recognition. Their first date was in Hill Auditorium.

Memorial services will be Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1632 Georgetown Rd., Danville, IL. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM to 11 AM, and celebration service immediately following with Jim Coppins officiating. There is a monument placed in North Lawn Cemetery, Adams Township, MI in their memory.
