Mary Ingram Rubenacker, 97, of McLeansboro, died 2:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. She was born June 12, 1918, in Sparta, the daughter of John and Theresia Peters Mathews. She married Wesley Ingram; he preceded her in death. She married Melvin Rubenacker Sr.; he survives. She is survived by her husband, Melvin Rubenacker Sr. of McLeansboro; daughter, Angelita (Dale Gauch) Valentine of Flagler Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Brandon (fiancee Mindy Smith and her son Nicolas Smith) Valentine and Crystal Valentine (husband Rodney) Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Steven Wesley Valentine, Alexander Johnson and Malakai Johnson; and siblings, Joseph (Judy) Mathews of Freeburg, Sister Mary Anthony Mathews of Ruma, Margaret Mary Erb of Belleville and Mary Agnes “Babe” Mathews of Belleville. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; five brothers and sisters; and two granddaughters. Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis with Monsignor Joseph Lawler and Father Slawomir Ptak conducting the funeral mass. Interment was at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fairview Heights. Visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Gholson Funeral Home. A rosary was held Tuesday night. She was a retired school teacher. She served 17 years as a nun and taught school for several years at the Piopolis School. She later taught in public schools. She also taught elementary education at Central School, Mt. Pleasant School and Franklin School in St. Clair County. While a nun in the church, she taught under the name Sister Immaculata. She was an associate of the Precious Blood Sisters and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Piopolis. She was a graduate of St. Louis University, receiving a bachelors degree. Gholson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
