Mary Jane Mangis, 88, of Urbana, passed away at 10:41 a.m., June 3, 2016 at her residence.
Jane was born on December 1, 1927 in Champaign the daughter of Harold and Juanita (Wright) Lamb. She married John Mangis on February 24, 1945 in Norman, OK. He passed away October 28, 2005.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Susan Varner (Eric) of Carlock; daughter-in-law, Debora (Gentzler) Mangis of Mt. Auburn; grandson, James W. Mangis of Mt. Auburn; and her beloved cat Kitty. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Jim Mangis, sister Patsy Carr, and brother John Lamb.
Jane was a housewife, caregiver, and worked in the business office at Burnham Hospital. She married the love of her life John and they were both very active members of the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello where she served as church Secretary. She enjoyed sewing, playing bridge, flowers, and traveling. The most important things were her faith and family. She always put her family first and she took care of her husband for the last 12 years of his life and never complained. When it came to her children she only wanted them to be happy and healthy. She also loved all animals.
The family would like to give a special thank you for the care given by Amber Glen and Carle Hospice. Although she suffered from Alzheimers the last several years, her personality and her love for others was always apparent.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held in Monticello Township Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Animal Hospital of Monticello or the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello.
