Mary's Story

Mary Sue Haas, 78, of McLeansboro, died 1:40 p.m. Saturday, July 4, 2015, at her home. She was born Jan. 21, 1937, in Hamilton County, the daughter of Phineas Severs and Dorthey (Smith) Severs. She married John Haas April 16, 1960; he survives in McLeansboro. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, John Randal Haas and Bradley Joe Haas both of Hopkinsville, Ky. , and Rodney Eugene Haas and wife Jennifer of Springfield; a daughter, Brenda Haas of Fairfield; three grandchildren, Levi Moore of Alabama, Jarrett Johnson of Fairfield and Conrad Haas of Springfield; a sister, Norma Jean Eaton of McLeansboro; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Arthur Val Severs and James Eugene Severs; and two sisters, Thelma Ruth Barlow and Deloris Lucille Hart. She was a homemaker. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her children and grandchildren very much. She loved flowers, birds and especially watching hummingbirds. Graveside funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, at Blooming Grove Cemetery near McLeansboro. The visitation was held 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Burial was at Blooming Grove Cemetery near McLeansboro. Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro is in charge of the arrangements.
