Mary's Story

Mary Emery, 96, of Danville, passed this life at 7:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, at Gardenview Manor Nursing Home. She was born Oct. 31, 1920, to Daisy Hill-Snider and Shelvy Snider in Hickman, Ark. She was married to William M. Emery for 60 years. From this union they had eight children, Dorothy Fernandez, Lavina Bloomer (James), Norris Anglin, Karren Turner, Julia Watson (Steven), Vanessa Schowalter (John) and William Emery Jr. (Connie) and a special son-in-law, David Grimes, host of grand, great-grand and great-great-grandchildren.
Mary had formerly worked at both Saint Elizabeth and Lakeview Hospitals as a licensed-practical nurse until she retired. She was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Her passion in life was raising her children and spending time with her many grandchildren. She started out as a kindergarten assistant and she has raised a whole kindergarten of children, and she encouraged everyone to get an education, because in her words, "Once you get something in your head, no one can take that away from you."
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Fetus Snider; and her daughter, Shirley Anne Davis.
