Mary E. Cates-Palica, 73, of rural Attica, died at 2:32 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital. She was born May 24, 1944, at Danville, Ill., the daughter of Harold Leon and Angela D. (Mackiewicz) Cates.
She was a graduate of Nazareth Academy, Lagrange, Ill., and Oak Park Nursing Academy. She was a nurse 30 years working at University of Illinois Ambulatory Care. She resided at Mokena, Ill., for many years and moved to Attica four years ago. She was a member of the Catholic Church. She enjoyed horses and was a member of American Saddle Horse Association.
Mary married John C. (Jack) Palica Feb. 16, 1985, at Chicago, and he survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Carrie Sloboda (Bob Frerich). She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services 2 p.m. EDT Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, with Father Samuel Futral officiating.
