Marshall's Story

Marshall Marion Cross, Jr., 74, of Belle Rive, went to be with Jesus at 3:35 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014, at his home in Belle Rive. He was born Friday, Sept. 15, 1939, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Marshall Marion Cross, Sr. and Lena A. (Sneed) Cross. He married Marilyn Kay Levall on Sept. 30, 1961, at First United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon. Marshall served our country in the National Guard and worked as a farmer. He was a member of Sugar Camp Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He acted as a loving “grandpa” to many others and will be missed dearly. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Kay Cross of Belle Rive; son, Bryan Lee Cross and wife Melanie of Belle Rive; three daughters, Terri Lynn Mays and husband Darrell of Belle Rive, Tanya Beal and husband Mark of Mt. Vernon and Tricia Reeves and husband John of Mt. Vernon; 23 grandchildren, Andrea Adams and husband Leon, Austin Cross, Avery Marshall Cross, Kecia Brenner and husband Michael, Heston Mays and wife Katarina, Darcie Suermann and husband Jeremy, Leah Mays, Nathanael Mays, Amelia Mays, Wyatt Mays, Thea Mays, Quenton Mays, Felicia Mays, Jadie Morales, Jeremy Pitchford, Heather Kramm, Tyler Beal, Jacob Beal and wife Andrea, Matthew Beal, Kayla Webster and husband Jesse, Alaina Reeves, John Clayton Reeves and fiancée Libbey Harrah and John Dylan Reeves; 13 great-grandchildren, Madalynn, Maylee, Myla, Colt, Wesson, Jaden, Jacob Marshall, Joel, Layne, Ryker, Zoie, Archer and Caroline; aunt, Molly Olson and husband Jerry of Arizona; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral service were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Sugar Camp Missionary Baptist Church in Belle Rive with Dr. David Shepherd and Pastor Tim Baker officiating. Interment was held at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Dahlgren. Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Sugar Camp Missionary Baptist Church in Belle Rive.
