Mark Howard Swisher, a Snohomish, Wash. resident, passed away on April 5, 2017. He was 53.
Mark was born in Portland, Ore. on March 21, 1964 to parents Don and Carolyn (Scott) Swisher.
The family moved east, settling in York, Penn., where Mark attended grade school. He spoke fondly of the backyard swimming pool and of the time he spent in it. The family moved to Danville, where he attended junior high and high school. He graduated from Danville High School in 1982.
Mark moved to Washington in 1990 to pursue commercial fishing which he turned into a very successful and memorable career; becoming a captain of a factory trawler fishing in the Bering Sea. He married Lisa Case in Everett, Wash. on Nov 25, 1995.
Mark was known by most for his extraordinary career but those closest to him knew him for his big heart and love of life. He was a self made man who enjoyed so much. He loved boating, water skiing, knee boarding, snowboarding, snowmobiling, dirtbiking, camping, traveling, computing and spending time with close friends. He was a great fisherman, leader, teacher, and friend.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa; son, Mark (Erica) Swisher; father, Don (Ginger) Swisher; sister, Pamela (Marc) Stout; brother, Gary (Cameron) Swisher; and one grandchild, Taeler Swisher.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother, Carolyn (James) Wicoff; and nephew, Micah Stout.
A visitation for Mark will be on Thursday, April 13, at 1 p.m. at Purdy and Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Road Lynnwood, Wash., with a funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. He will later be laid to rest in Newberg, Ore.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to skin cancer research; or at the family's request, simply go to the doctor and have your skin evaluated. It might save your life.
