Mark Harvey Shields, 56, of Strongsville, Ohio, passed away Friday, January 5, 2018,
peacefully at his home.
Mark had recently been hospitalized and had experienced problems related to his heart.
Mark was born April 3, 1961, in Danville, Ill., to the late Clifford and Mary (Vogt) Shields.
Mark was a graduate of Schlarman High School, Danville Area Community College and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. Following his education, he moved to near the Cleveland, Ohio, area, married and began a career in the grocery business. For the last 16 years, he was employed by The Mustard Seed Market and Café as a buyer. The Mustard Seed Market and Café is the largest locally owned retailer of natural and organic products in Ohio.
Mark will be greatly missed by his children, Lauren, August and Katie, as well as his children's
Stepbrother, Arthur Penn. Also by his brothers, John, Tom and Jim, as well as his nephew
and niece, Ryan (Heather) Shields and Kara (William) Billings and his other family members
Mark enjoyed his family members and friends. He enjoyed travel and many other interests.
Above all, he placed a premium on spending time with his children and supporting them in
all their endeavors.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. EST Thursday, January 11, at Bauer Funeral Home, 2089 Columbia Road, Valley City, Ohio. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. EST Friday, January 12, at Saint Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 1800 Station Road, Valley City, Ohio. Burial arrangements are incomplete.
