Margaret's Story

Margaret Ann Rife, 79, of Hoopeston, formerly of Rossville, passed away at 5:33 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Mrs. Rife was born April 27, 1937, in Metropolis, Ill., the daughter of Henry L. and Reba M. (Yates) Dunn.
She married Paul E. Rife on Aug. 25, 1954, in Paxton. He survives.
She also is survived by one daughter, Debra L. (Kevin) Miller of Glendale, Ariz.; three sons, Ron E. (JoEllen) Rife of Bedford, Ind., Michael W. (Kate) Rife of Sevierville, Tenn., and Doug (Kathy) Rife of Rossville, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Henry L. Dunn Jr. of Lehigh, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Glenn; and two brothers, Dave and Larry Lee Dunn.
Mrs. Rife attended Rossville High School. She lived in the Rossville area, until Margaret and Paul moved to Arizona in 1995. She was a member of East University Church of God in Arizona. She also was active in the Women of Church of God and played the church organ. She was a volunteer at Chrisman Nursing Home and she also bowled on several bowling leagues. She made and taught ceramic classes.
She enjoyed great pleasure in babysitting grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed camping, growing plants and flowers, and loved anything with butterflies on it. Two of her favorite pastimes were playing music with her husband "Bud" on the guitar while she played the organ and watching the Arizona Diamondbacks play baseball.
A Celebration of Margaret Rife's Life will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at the Blurton Funeral Home in Hoopeston, with Pastor Micah Mobley officiating. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Rossville Cemetery.
